The Pro Stock Carburetor Classics helped build the sport and one of the biggest was the Bob Glidden vs Lee Shepherd battles of the 80's. This rivalry helped shaped drag racing as it was a classic Ford vs Chevy battle. They may have been rivals on the track but they each shared mutual respect for each other.
