The NHRA Chief Auto Parts Nationals debut in 1986 at the inaugural event at the Texas Motorplex, the only year the event was not an NHRA event was in 1988 when it was IHRA as track owner Billy Meyer had purchased the IHRA that season. The event has changed names multiple times over the years due to change in sponsorships. In 1999 it became the FallNationals, a name that remains today.
